Hooked with Grey’s Anatomy

WATCHING television series has always been my favourite pass time. I prefer spending day offs by just simply being in bed all day and binge watch TV series that I’m currently obsessing with.

Me being a frustrated medical practitioner, I love watching series that involves surgeries, doctors, accidents, rescue operations and the likes. And as I was scrolling the Netflix to find something interesting to watch, this series appeared in the “Western TV Series” portion. The name somehow is connected with a medical term and caught my attention “Grey’s Anatomy” was the title; I opened it read the synopsis and boom! I was obsessing with it that I had to be awake for 24 hours just to finish the whole two seasons. Much to my delight it has 14 seasons and still currently on going.

My sister asked me why I was much indulged in watching it rather than watching other popular teen series like Riverdale since it was so trending in social media, I was dumbfounded for a sec but after that I was able to regain composure and told her “I’d rather watch something that I’m really interested than watching something just to have a say online”.

This series is something that sums up almost the entire genre that can be offered through television; a mixture of drama, romance, comedy, medical, and even thriller. Now where am I supposed to find much more than this?

I know not all people find this interesting, some might find it boring or somehow overboard. Some would say it gross because of the surgeries, or other will comment that the terminologies are difficult but for me watching Grey’s Anatomy was a way to make me understand the real scenarios that medical personnel experience every day.

Others in my age may find this series less outdated, yes it started 13 years ago, yes it may be too “oldie” to watch but this genre is for those who wanted to be doctors, nurses and surgeons, and for people to appreciate the reality of their field. How they overcome societal problems, how they deal with death being inevitable and how they as students of science believe in miracles.

Films, series, and documentaries these are outlets for us viewers to have a better perception of how something works, of how problem should be handled, and what are the real life scenario that awaits us behind the four walls of our home. (Yvonne C. Masloc, FSUU Intern)
