Bzzzzz: Not a shutout, 6-5, but ‘promdis’ in top 4 spots

OUTSIDE-MANILA candidates occupy the top four places in the 2017 bar exams, released yesterday, with three (#2, #4 and #7) in the top 10 coming from Cebu’s University of San Carlos (USC). In the “cream of the crop” list of 10 topnotchers, six are from the provinces while five are from Manila law schools (two are tied in #8, thus the total of 11).

Unlike in the 2016 bar exams, with results released in 2017 -- when not one of the Manila law schools landed in the Top 10 -- this time the “promdis” did not shut out the Manilans but kept them out of the first four places.

The top four are: Mark John Simondo of University of La Salle Bacolod (91.05%); #2, Christianne Mae Balili of USC (90.8%); #3, Camille Remoroza of Ateneo de Davao (90.7%); and Ivanne D’Laureil Hisoler of USC (90.7%). The only Manilan in the Top Five is a San Beda bet (#5). Rheland Servato of USC is #7 while two other Cebuanos were also in the Top 20: #15, Stephanie Claros of University of San Jose Recoletos (87.5%) and #17, Ella Mae Mendoza of University of Cebu (87.35%). Sharing #8 place (with a San Beda examinee) is a candidate from St. Mary’s University in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya.

Will the 10-0 score for “promdi” in the 2016 bar exams ever be repeated?

WHY IS IT...

... (1) WHEN 2016 BAR EXAMS had a high passing percentage (59.06%), the tests were called “reasonable”? Would the 2017 bar exams with only 25.5% passing be called “unreasonable?” Was Associate Justice Presbito Velasco, 2016 bar examiner, “reasonable” and Associate Justice Lucas Bersamin “unreasonable”?

... (2) THE LRT PROJECT, which is billed as the “superior” replacement of the BRT project, would only have at most a three-year gestation period (counted from 2016), compared to BRT’s 15-year period to process?

WHAT DID HE MEAN?

‘EAT ME.” A high-profile local official posted this on Facebook at 3:54 a.m. of April 24, Tuesday: “Hurt feeling why do you. Please eat me.”
