FIVE individuals were arrested by authorities for illegal possession of firearms and illegal drugs in Cordillera Administrative Region over the weekend.
Percival Vargas Gumihid, 21, construction worker, residing at Lower Tomay, La Trinidad Benguet and Roberto Biluan Panday Jr, 32, private miner, residing at Bua Tuding, Itogon, Benguet were nabbed inside Amarillo Bar, Legarda Road, Baguio City in the early morning of September 25.
Police confiscated from the suspects a caliber .45 pistol with one extended magazine loaded with 10 ammunitions placed inside a sling bag.
In La Trinidad, Benguet, Melchor Weni Pitir, 24, construction worker, and a resident of Km. 3, Balili was arrested inside the Tubanians Videoke Bar for illegal possession of a handgun while Rodolfo Cadap Totanes, 42, farmer, resident of Taaw, Marivic, Sapid, Mankayan, Benguet was arrested for possession of a hand grenade inside the Galvalley Videoke Bar at Slaughter Compound, Poblacion, Mankayan in the afternoon of September 23.
Probers recovered unlicensed caliber .38 Smith and Wesson without ammunition from Pitir while a hand grenade was confiscated from Totanes.
In Kalinga province, Rany Padio Marquez was arrested in his residence at Wandag/Baco-og St., Casigayan, Tabuk City in the evening of September 21, 2017 for illegal drugs.
The arrest was made by virtue of a search warrant issued by Judge Victor Dalanao, Presiding Judge of MTCC, 2nd Judicial Region, Tabuk City, Kalinga.
Confiscated from Marquez were two small heat sealed transparent plastic sachets containing suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as "shabu," assorted drug paraphernalia, and a cellphone.
Suspects, together with the confiscated and seized pieces of evidences are now under the custody of the police while awaiting the filing of appropriate against them.
Police Regional Office-Cordillera director Chief Superintendent Elmo Francis Sarona said highland cops will continue to work very hard to curb criminality in the region and there’s no let-up in the war on criminality especially on illegal drugs.
“PRO-COR (Cordillera) together with other law enforcement agencies embarked on different crime prevention initiatives in the region with the primary objective of maintain law and order and the protection of the public against criminals,” added Sarona.
