A 66-YEAR-OLD man was arrested for allegedly molesting his 12-year-old granddaughter in Barangay Monteverede, Samboan, Cebu.
The suspect was arrested around 9 a.m. Friday, September 29, after the town police were informed by a municipal social welfare and development officer about the incident.
The social welfare personnel and police officers, led by Senior Inspector Nazarino Emia, the town police chief, rescued the girl.
Initial investigation showed that the suspect admitted the allegations against him.
The grandfather will be facing a complaint for acts of lasciviousness in relation to Republic Act (RA) 7610, or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination.
RA 7610 defines child abuse as maltreatment of a minor, which includes “psychological and physical abuse, neglect, cruelty, sexual abuse and emotional maltreatment” and “any act by deeds or words which debases, degrades or demeans the intrinsic worth and dignity of a child as a human being.”
The law also punishes any person “who shall commit any other acts of child abuse, cruelty, or exploitation or to be responsible for other conditions prejudicial to the child’s development.” (SunStar Cebu)
