CONCERT. We should be glad that the Talisay City Government is presenting a free concert this Friday as the opening event of the city’s nine-night novena period leading to its annual feast in honor of Santa Teresa de Avila. City Mayor Eduardo Gullas and this year’s fiesta committee have decided to feature Fr. Jonas Mejares, the current parish priest of the Sto. Niño Parish in Mohon, as the star of the show.
BIRTHDAY. Actually, the Friday show is also an advance celebration of Fr. Mejares’s birthday the next day. I’m highly recommending this entertainment treat titled “Hugpong” to the general public. Be at the Talisay City sports complex before the concert starts at exactly 8 p.m.
MOVIE. I’m helping my idol and good friend, movie director Carlo J. Caparas, promote his latest flick “Kamandag ng Droga.” He wrote the storyline, which is based on true events, himself. “Kamandag ng Droga” is a timely or relevant film because it shows how substance abuse could effectively ruin families and communities. Direk Carlo tapped over 30 big stars to appear in this movie that he said is his and his late wife Donna Villa’s contribution to Pres. Rodrigo Duterte’s war against illegal drugs.
OPINION. In his opinion, the anti-drug war is being politicized by some politicians and those that don’t want the President’s effort to succeed. The noted writer-director told me that “Kamandag ng Droga” has several horrifying scenes if only to stress the point that drug addiction is the worst thing that could happen to substance abusers, regardless of age, sex or economic status.
