AT LEAST 89 cases of children in conflict with the law (CICL) were reported in Benguet from January to August this year.
Juana Bannawe of Provincial Social Welfare Development Office (PSWDO) noted that theft has the highest number of crime committed by CICL with 43, followed by 17 cases of physical injury, 10 cases of rape, nine with drug related cases, four cases of malicious mischief and three involved hacking and murder.
Furthermore, two acts of lasciviousness and one involving trespassing, motornapping, and estafa were recorded.
The PSWDO report added that La Trinidad remains the top municipality in the province with 40 CICL cases, seven cases each in Bokod and Itogon; six in Bakun, Kapangan, Mankayan and Tublay; five in Buguias, followed by three in Atok; two in Tuba; and one in Kibungan.
Kabayan and Sablan has zero cases of children in conflict with the law.
Fifty percent of the CICL are high school level, 43 percent elementary level, two percent elementary graduate and one percent college level.
From January to December last year, 189 cases of CICL cases were reported, where 48 percent are comprised of theft cases, 19 percent cases of physical injury, and 17 percent of drug related cases.
