PORAC -- Some 190 students from this town received their notice of award Tuesday, October 3, entitling them to P6,000 worth of educational assistance from the Commission on Higher Education (Ched) through the effort of Second District Representative Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
Mayor Condralito dela Cruz, Vice Mayor Dexter David and Councilor Fritzie David-Dizon led the distribution of the notices Tuesday at the Porac Municipal Hall.
According to David, the awardees form part of the 600 scholars of Mrs. Arroyo.
“We are thankful for the support of Representative Arroyo to our scholars. We are fortunate that Ched is now according them P6,000 in assistance,” the vice-mayor said.
David said that the financial assistance program aims to help indigents with their tuition. David said that it is enough to inspire the students to pursue their studies.
He added that it is the responsibility of not just the parents to send their children to school but also of the whole community.
The students are encouraged to maintain a certain grade average to maintain membership in the program. This in turn ensures that the students become more determined to see their studies through.
"The local government could only do too little. This is why we encourage those who get government support to make the best of what they get from government," David added.
