New top cop vows to continue war on drugs, gambling

SENIOR Superintendent Edgar Alan Okubo, the new Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) director, said he will continue the fight against illegal drugs, gambling and other crimes.

The Baguio-native police official said he will continue cleaning the ranks.

Okubo, 47, replaced Senior Superintendent Eric Noble, who will be the police attaché in California.

In his speech, Okubo, who has a Japanese ancestry, said he dreamed of being assigned in Cebu.

Okubo had served as the police chief of Pangasinan, Noble’s home province.

He was also the regional public safety company commander of Police Regional Office (PRO)-Ilocos.

Police Regional Office-Central Visayas Director Jose Mario Espino presided the turnover ceremony on Friday morning, October 6.

Espino congratulated Noble for his successful stint in Cebu Province.

He told Okubo to be "relentless" in the campaign against drug trafficking in Cebu.

In his speech, Noble reminded the CPPO to continue emulating Lapu-Lapu, the native hero who fought invaders.

A police officer, he said, should be like him, not afraid to fight. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
