A POLICEMAN assigned with the anti-illegal drug unit was killed in a gun attack minutes after an anti-drug operations in this southern port city.
Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, identified the slain policeman as Senior Police Office 3 (SPO3) Ronie Adanza, 43.
Galvez said the incident happened around 9:53 p.m. Thursday at Cariño Compound in the village of Camino Nuevo, Zamboanga city.
Adanza was on his way home aboard a motorcycle when he stopped to have a conversation with a group of people at the inner portion of Cariño compound. Two men riding in tandem on another motorcycle arrived and shot the victim, the police said.
Adanza failed to reach the hospital alive.
Prior to the incident, the victim, together with members of the Zamboanga City Police Office and Police Station 2, arrested an alleged drug pusher along Agan Avenue in the village of Camino Nuevo.
The place where Adanza was killed is just near the area where the police conducted the drug raid.
Galvez said investigation continues to identify the perpetrators.
