Easterlies causing Cebu’s scorching temperatures: Pagasa Mactan

THE Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Sciences Administration (Pagasa) said that only Mindanao is affected by the Inter-tropical Convergence Zone, so the island has been experiencing daily rainfall.

“Visayas is very hot since we declared the onset of the dry season last April 10,” said Pagasa Mactan Chief Al Quiblat.

He said that the easterlies from the Pacific Ocean are affecting Visayas, which explains the scorching temperatures.

Quick evaporation also creates rain clouds which would explain the intermittent rainfall that Cebu has been experiencing.

However, the hot season is here to stay, he said. Quiblat urged the public to avoid direct exposure to the sun between noon and 3 p.m. where temperatures hover around 39 degrees Celsius.

Within this period, those who have illness and are taking medicines should stay in a cooler temperature to avoid complications,” Quiblat said. (EOB)
