WITH the immense effects of environmental degradation, climate change and waste segregation, greening initiatives are what the world needs today.
The Angeles University Foundation - College of Arts and Sciences (AUF - CAS) leads an ongoing greening campaign at Barangay San Agustin, San Luis, Pampanga.
“Greening CAS” is the flagship program of the college that aims to help the adopted community with regards to its solid waste management and to sponsor greening seminars and activities for the residents. The program was initiated last year with its mission to champion the college in becoming eco-friendly for environmental sustainability.
The adopted community of the college is Barangay San Agustin, San Luis, Pampanga where the greening activities and projects of the program are set to be implemented within the five-year contract. Waste Management is all about the science of monitoring wastes and trying to prevent it and with the aid of proper education for the residents of San Luis, a fruitful result will soon be seen.
Last September, the first greening program for this year was led by dean Dr. Olga Angelinetta Tulabut and assistant dean Lala Cabral together with the faculty members as well the volunteer students with their activities that best suit the younger residents of the barangay.
“Simple yet informative.” This is how the participants described the activity prepared for them. Mini games, storytelling and as well as slogan making were conducted during visits.
According to the College Student Council President Anna Agatep, this year’s preparation for the Greening Campaign would be more intact and highly informative. “Mas maraming students ang mag-vo-volunteer and as well as ang mga makikinabang sa project na ‘to.”
Games and proposals will be conducted at the barangay. (Jamie Daian Rodriguez and Alfonzo Nacpil/AUF interns)
