Up and behind Togonan Falls

HIDING among the shadows of swaying trees, it was a picture of a road less traveled.

Seated on top of the mountains in Mainit, Surigao del Norte, Togonon Falls is one of the travel destinations I can say that makes the quote, “Don’t judge a book by its cover”.

I traveled for four long hours from Butuan City just to get there. Mind you, it was not the best road travel experience so far. We departed from my place expecting that the road we have to take is as comfortable as what comfortable means. It was muddy and crooked. It became even more dangerous because it rained so hard that time. Even the car that I rode on got stuck in the middle of a one-way road. But it was an adventure! It was fun.

Though the travel was such a struggle, the warm welcome of the locals was a relief.

It was an amazing moment to experience freedom out from stressful requirements and school loads. I took a lot of pictures till my memory got full thinking that maybe I won’t be seeing this beaut again.

On February 15 this year, the area was damaged by flood. I was heartbroken after seeing how bad it looked after the heavy rain. However I trust that the locals, who love the place very well, will rebuild the place. (Kent Warren Fugoso, FSUU Intern)
