Mabalacat to send Badjaos home

THE city government of Mabalacat is set to send some 90 Badjao families home on May 20.

Josie Basilio, city social welfare and development office (CSWDO) head, said the local government has appropriated P2.7 million for the program.

More than 150 families are temporarily residing in shanties under the bridge and along the Dolores creek.

She added that each family, who availed of the Balik Probinsiya program, will receive P10,000 cash assistance from the city.

According to her, the beneficiaries voluntarily availed of the program, which covers the food and transportation expenses of the beneficiaries.

“They will be fetched and transported by five buses to the Port Area in Manila. From there, they will go straight to Zamboanga before they will be brought by different social welfare offices in Mindanao,” Basilio said.

Basilio said Mayor Crisistomo Garbo extended full support to the program.

The remaining 60 families refused to return home and left their temporary shelters in the city, Basilio said.
