Aspiring CSF barangay chiefs ink peace covenant

ASPIRING barangay chairmen in the City of San Fernando (CSF) on Wednesday, May 2, signed a peace covenant to ensure peaceful elections on May 14.

Of the 87 candidates qualified to run as barangay chairman in 35 villages, 65 signed the covenant which was spearheaded by the City Government of San Fernando, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Philippine National Police (PNP), and Commission on Elections (COMELEC).

According to Irene Bacani, DILG director for CSF, the main purpose of the covenant signing was to promote peaceful and friendly elections among these aspiring barangay leaders.

Mayor Edwin Santiago said he hoped for harmonious and clean polls on May 14.

“Despite tough competitions, the whole city is hoping that camaraderie among the candidates will still prevail as it makes a big impact in achieving harmony and transparency during the campaign period and the poll itself,” he said.

Santiago added that he also hoped for winning candidates to establish programs and projects that will help the city achieve its vision.

Meanwhile, the rules and guidelines on creating campaign advertisements and materials were discussed by Comelec Officer June Guiao as the campaign period will begin on May 4 until May 12.

The peace covenant signing was also witnessed by City Administrator officer-in-charge Michael Quizon, Jr., San Fernando Police chief Roland Agohob, and CSFP Values Formation Council chairman Pastor Reland Francisco.
