IT began with the search for a client’s fabrics that ultimately inspired fashion designer Jerrick Macasocol to create the MCSCL Summer 2018 collection.

“I’m kind of a fabric hoarder, really,” he shared. “So it really piled up and I thought of having a ready-to-wear summer collection out of it.”

The patterns show a mix of Mayan art and earth-toned color palettes adding to its charm. He said that it’s a collective of summer prints that he was drawn to creating upon seeing the fabrics.

It is also in this collection that he added menswear to the mix. “I have been very curious about how menswear is going to be a market especially here in Cebu. I was quite surprised when I got good feedback and market here,” said Jerrick. Of course, it’s in colorful palettes much like the rest of the pieces for this season.

“The print is very intricate if you are going to take a look at it closer. From afar its just like blocks of colors, but those tiny prints made it really stand out. It’s made out of cotton fabric so its really comfy to wear and a very classy print, I should say. This can be worn from day to night.”

It’s not only his love for the playful and vibrant fabrics highlighted on this collection but also his love for handsewn garments. “I can’t take away that love for handsewn garments with handsewn appliques so I made a piece out of hard tulle embelished with faux leather floral appliques with sequins and pearls. I also made a crochet bikinis underneath. It’s something like a statement or mother piece for the collection,” he said.

Does he have a favorite among the collection?

“I mean, they’re all my babies and I love all of them. But what stood out for me was that two piece stripe georgette tailored sleeveless top and palazzo pants. Which was also worn by Korina Sanchez after her stylist saw it (Korina bought it as well). It was quite special,” Jerrick shared.

The collection introduces varied pieces of outfits and deviates from the typical tropical prints with a vibe he described as light and easy yet stylish and current.
