THE family of the overseas Filipino worker (OFW) whose remains were found in a septic tank in South Korea cried for justice.
“Gaan hustisya ang bata ko (Give justice to my son),” said Angelita Claveria, mother of Micheal Angelo Claveria.
A 34-year-old native of Cabatuan, Iloilo, Micheal works as a metal worker in a factory in Hwaseong, Gyronggi Province in South Korea.
He was reported missing for the past two years and his family received information that a body was found in a septic tank last April in Korea.
On May 3, it was confirmed that the body found had a DNA similar to that of Angelita’s. The DNA test was taken by the Korean Consulate last April 20.
After he graduated with Bachelor of Science in Maritime Transportation, Micheal was encouraged by his family to apply overseas.
“Tanan nga exam napasaran niya man (He passed all of the exams),” said Angelita.
When Micheal was in Korea, he never mentioned or complained anything about his work, his mother said.
Micheal wanted to transfer to a different job after he returned home last September 2015. Angelita wondered what was behind his immediate decision.
Angelita also saw laceration on his eyebrows, which Micheal said was obtained from “back diving.”
She even tried to stop him from returning overseas in October of the same year.
“Kung bal-an ko lang amu to gali sitwasyon niya, wala ko na ginpabalik to (If I only knew his situation, I wouldn’t allow him to return there),” his mother said.
Angelita said that her son did not express any problem when he was overseas. Micheal promised that he will provide financially to finish the construction of their house.
Angelita felt that something was wrong when her son was not able to contact them.
“Kinahanglan pangdakpon kag kung ano ginhimo da, himuon man kung ano ginhimo sa bata ko (They should be arrested and be punished similarly to what they did to my son),” she said. (Carolyn Jane Abello/SunStar Philippines)
