Art exhibit for a cause

THE Leah D. Remolado Arts and Events Center opened a fundraising painting exhibit on Tuesday, May 8, with the proceeds to be donated to St. Joseph’s Golden Home Foundation Inc., a home for the elders in Cagayan de Oro City.

In line with the celebration of the National Heritage Month and Mothers’ Day, the “group-show painting exhibition” features the paintings of the newly installed and inducted set of charter officers and members of the Artists’ Association of Mindanao, namely: Ronnie Anggot, Albert Antipas, Jeck Antipas, Tricia Marie Antivo, Jessica Bunani, Ruvic Calipayan, Jesah Divine Joy Deripaz, Reymond Labonite, Jojo Requina, Junie Rule, and Leah Remolado, a woman advocate and the artistic director, trainer and events organizer.

The art show will run from May 8 to 18 at Limketkai Center, Cagayan de Oro City.

Hobert Savior, director of the Commission on Culture and Arts at Xavier University and a guest of honor during the show, said the exhibit gives importance on commemorating our past, which measures who we are in the present and will eventually guide us to our future, and a reverence to our mothers along with the love that they have shared.

The exhibit carries the theme: “Tagdon ang Karaan ug Gugma para sa Inahan”,

“We believe that our mother will always be the light of our lives and you are very lucky that you have your mothers with you. When you have your mothers with you, it’s really a very different feeling because you will have a sense of guidance, a sense of light and a sense of purpose. You will always have a soft heart and the love that you actually deserve,” Savior said.

Savior also described the paintings as “very precious” and “very priceless” as they show a “certain sense of respect of memory, a certain sense of respect of what it is there that you want to share with us in your mind.”

Remolado, meanwhile, shared the founding of the art and events center, saying that it was created to become a platform towards helping people and pushing advocacies that would really benefit the women, the children especially the less fortunate, neglected and abandoned children giving them another form of leisure and at the same time therapy.

“The artist organization along with the Leah D. Remolado Arts and Events Centre started 2011 pa jod. I have all the events including my advocacy on helping people especially with women and children. Naglibog ko mag unsa ko like (I was confused as to what I would like to do), I want to help people, I want to train people, I love art and I love also event so until such time na nag decide ko (when I decided) to threw this event center with the training on arts including the painting, creative arts the livelihood program and including the dance and music,” Remolado said.

The Leah D. Remolado Arts and Events Center is a private and advocacy institution that aims to provide the students and the participants the perspective of proper guidance, motivation, inspiring potentials and to train and develop skills, craftsmanship in a practical application for a more creative and productive individuals in the education of arts, community activities and preparing for their future career-oriented in a well-round craft aspirations.
