FOR a man who spent his whole life giving and serving others, he is uncomfortable being shoved in the limelight, much less talked about in a football cup for a cause that bears his name.

But this time around, former Baguio City Chief Public Information Officer Ramon Dacawi will be the beneficiary of the first “Mondax Cup,” who has been undergoing dialysis which has been taking its toll on his finances.

Despite of his condition, Mondax, as he is fondly called by colleagues, still gets up and holds the hands of others in pain by helping them in their own dialysis treatment fees.

What sustains him in his weekly dialysis treatments is his desire to see his grandchildren grow up, like any other doting grand father.

Even before being diagnosed with a kidney problem, Mondax has been active in organizing charities for various individuals and groups who are in need, using his authority as a respected journalist, especially through his articles published in the local papers that reached the hearts of samaritans not only in the city but also from overseas.

He continue spearheading the free dialysis movement and helping those in need despite being a dialysis patient himself to the extent of using his own “dialysis funds” to help out indigent dialysis patients.

Hatched by the Cordillera Binnadang Football Club, the tournament dubbed "Sumvac Mondax Football Cup," is set to gather football squads from Baguio, Benguet, Mountain Province and nearby provinces of La Union and Pangasinan.

Trophies and medals will be up for grabs in the eight categories, namely, 10 under mix, 12 under boys, 14 under boys, 14 under girls, 17 under boys, 17 under girls, ladies and the men's open.

Interested sponsors may drop by at 10 Montinola Subdivision, Kisad Road or may contact Shandelle Sabado at 09364472322. (PR)
