Quake jolts Zamboanga Peninsula

THE Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said a magnitude 4.9 earthquake of tectonic origin jolted eight areas in the Zamboanga Peninsula early Monday, May 14.

Allan Rommel Labayog, Phivolcs-Zamboanga City science research analyst, said the epicenter was located 46 kilometers north, 10 degrees west of Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte at 6:12 a.m. Monday.

The earthquake, with depth of focus of nine kilometers, was felt at Intensity III in the towns of Manukan, Liloy and Sindangan in Zamboanga del Norte.

Intensity II was felt in the towns of Jose Dalman, Leon Postigo, and Tampilisan also in the province of Zamboanga del Norte as well as in this city.

Intensity I was felt in Zamboanga City and Pagadian City. There was no reported damage. No aftershocks were expected. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
