PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte may ride a jet ski in the afternoon of Tuesday, May 15, not to the disputed Spratly Islands as he declared in 2016, but in the Philippine Rise.

This was revealed during a briefing Monday night, May 14, with reporters who will cover the President's first-time visit to the Philippine Rise.

At the briefing, reporters were told that Duterte may ride a jet ski before departing the underwater plateau, if the weather is fair.

Duterte's trip to the undersea region marks the country's first year commemoration of the renaming of Benham Rise to Philippine Rise, a 13-million-hectare undersea area that is part of the country's continental shelf.

The President's chopper is expected to land in BRP-Davao del Sur, one of the two landing docks of the Philippine Navy, at around 2 p.m. Tuesday.

His visit to Philippine Rise aims to assert the country's exclusive ownership of the underwater plateau. (SunStar Philippines)
