Team JPD to join Asics Relay Run

SIXTEEN runners from Visayas and Mindanao will represent Team JPD in the 42-kilometer and 21K relay competitions of the Asics Relay Philippines, which is set on May 26 in SM By The Bay in SM MOA, Pasay City.

The 16-member delegation headed by Cebuano coach John Philip Dueñas will compete in the all-men’s 42K relay, all-women’s 42K relay, mixed 42K relay and mixed 21K relay. Every runner in the 42K relay race will cover 10.5K, while every runner for the 21K relay will run 5.25K.

The all-men 42K relay team is composed of Jimboy Lugay and Bobby Tadlas from Bukidnon, Keenan Lou James Caburnay of Davao and the 2016 Milo Marathon National champion, Jeson Agravante from Bacolod.

The JPD all-women 42K relay squad will have Christine Hallasgo and Esterlita Organiza from Malaybalay, Bukidnon, and Cebu City’s Melody Perez and Geniecel Saballa.

The mixed relay 42K team will have brothers John Philip and Chobie Dueñas, Bernadeth Santillan and Davaoeño Elmer Bartolo.

The 21K mixed relay team will have Mary Joy Loberanis of University of San Carlos Basic Education Department (USC-BED), Arian Arbois Jr., and grassroots runners Jhonn Marc Dizon and Jessie Abelgos from the Sisters of Mary Boystown.

Dueñas, the long-time trainer of Olympian Mary Joy Tabal, said that the winner of this race will be sent by Asics to a relay race in Singapore, Malaysia or Indonesia. (RSC)
