Disqualified barangay, SK bets rise to 359

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO - Three days after the actual Election Day on May 14, the total number of Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) candidates facing disqualification cases continue to rise.

As of Wednesday, May 16, Commission on Elections (Comelec) Central Luzon Director Temie Lambino said that the total number of unqualified candidates for the recently-concluded barangay and SK elections in Central Luzon rose to 359.

Most of the candidates have issues on declared ages, either under or over the mandatory 18 to 24 year-old age bracket for the SK bets, while some were not registered voters in the barangays where they seek elective positions, Lambino added.

For the SK election candidates, 357 are subject to disqualification.

These include 288 who are overaged or more than 24 years old, 14 who are underaged or less than 18 years old and 55 who are not registered voters.

Nueva Ecija has the most number of overaged SK candidates with 154 followed by Bulacan with 49, Pampanga with 29, Bataan with 20, Zambales with 16, Tarlac with 14 and Aurora with six.

Nueva Ecija has the most number of underaged SK candidates with eight while Pampanga, Tarlac and Zambales each has two.

The same province has the most number of candidates who are not registered voters with 37 followed by Zambales with 12, Tarlac with five, and Aurora with one.

Meanwhile, two candidates for the barangay elections are also subject to disqualification because it turned out that they are not registered voters.

“For the candidates who are included here and who happened to have garnered the highest votes, they will not be proclaimed by Comelec. If they are proclaimed, they cannot assume their positions come July 1,” Lambino said.
