Guv urges candidates to clean up after polls

MISAMIS Oriental Governor Yevgeny Emano has urged both newly-elected village and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials and losing candidates to be responsible in clearing their respective villages from campaign paraphernalia and other wastes.

Emano said the new set of village and youth leaders should make clean-up activity as their first program after winning the elections.

"Let this be your first program kamong nangdaog nga manglimpyo sa inyong mga barangay sa mga tarpaulins ug posters nga nagkuyanap (those who won the election, clear your barangay from tarpaulins and posters)," Emano said.

He said campaign materials like posters, flyers and tarpaulins are seen anywhere, in both designated and prohibited areas such as trees and electric posts, among others.

"Magtabang ta karon nakadaog man o naparot sa piliay sa paglimpyo ug pagkuha anang campaign materials nga naa sa mga eskwelahan (Let’s all help, whether you won or lost, clean those campaign materials from the schools)," he added said.

The capitol's top officials worry that these campaign materials, if not properly removed and taken down, might be swept away towards the seas and rivers which will eventually destroy the marine sanctuary.

Emano said materials posted in trees with the use of tacks and nails have ill-effects to the trees.

"Let's all protect the environment,"Emano said.

Environmental protection and preservation is among the "Eight-pillar" program of the Emano administration.

Emano's call for the village leaders to get rid of waste and garbage in schools brought about by the recent elections is also in preparation for the Brigada Eskwela on May 28 to June 2.

The capitol is spending P3.35 million from the Local School Board for the said activity.
