Latest drug tests for workers in vice mayor, City Council’s offices

AT least 263 legislative department employees of Cebu City Hall underwent a surprise drug test administered by the City Office for Substance Abuse Prevention (Cosap) yesterday.

In an interview, Cosap chief Garry Lao said the tests given to both regular and casual employees of the vice mayor’s office and the City Council Secretariat were part of their thrust to ensure that City Hall remains a drug-free workplace.

As of yesterday, Cosap has already conduct random drug tests in 17 departments, including Cosap, Human Resource Development Office (HRDO), City Health Department, and Department of Engineering and Public Works.

“If you failed to undergo a drug test today and you were on duty, you will be dealt with accordingly,” Lao said.

Effective last May 4, all on-field employees of Cebu City Hall were required to undergo the random drug test administered by Cosap in their offices.

In a related development, Lao said that only two of three traffic enforcers’ services in the City Transportation Office will be terminated for testing positive of drugs.

“It was revealed by our analyst that while the two tested positive of illegal drugs, the other one rendered positive results because he has been taking prescription medicine,” he added.

The 30 traffic aids who failed to undergo the drug test last May 12 were required to report to HRDO and submit a letter of explanation. (Ilveya Nava, CNU Intern)
