Custodio: Enjoy each day

AS I was writing this, I was sitting happily, having been fed good food from an old favorite restaurant that just recently reopened in a new location. I am happy because the food was still how I last remembered it.

I over-ordered and of course, overate, but it was all worth it. As I sat fully satiated and sleepy because most of my blood circulation has rerouted from my brain to my gastrointestinal system, I cannot help but realize how important it is to enjoy each day as much as one can.

Since we all lead busy lives, sometimes we forget about ourselves. We dive into the challenges and trials of every day that we overlook the fact that we all need some down time. We need a time for rest and relaxation.

It’s really nice to just sit and allow the rest of the busy world to pass you by once in a while. We all need time to disengage from the rat race and just watch how everyone else maneuvers the meandering roads of life.

We learn a lot from observing others lead their lives. I learn a lot from people-watching really. You learn how other people react to certain situations and hopefully be able to apply them to your own when similar situations arise. It is like getting free lessons in life, right? I would certainly appreciate a tip or two on how I can better live mine.

It is important to enjoy each day. Although we tend to be busy, we should try to aspire to find some time to breathe and relax, no matter how short it may be. These mini-breaks serve as breathing spaces that allow us to calm down and collect ourselves amidst the chaos we immerse ourselves in everyday. It is important to find joy everyday so that we are continuously encouraged to keep going.

Spend time with friends, the ones that you know who will be friends for life, those whom you know will always be true to you even if it means setting you straight when you badly want to go a less acceptable path.

One of my good friends recently flew to Manila for a three-week vacation with family and I felt so bad she’d be gone a long time, I actually find it funny! It’s not like won't be able to stay in touch, that would be ridiculous in this time and age (unless your internet network sucks)!

It pretty much felt the same way when my bff was away for two weeks, I was constantly pestering him to come home! These are the friends you will always be glad you kept through the years. When you spend time together it is always fun and uplifting.

Spending time with family, just hanging out and enjoying each other’s company is priceless. I admit, I used to take for granted such family bonding activities which now, I kinda regret having done especially now that my father has passed. It is great if we always have all the time on the world and that the opportunities to spend time together never ends but that is not the case. Things can change in a snap of a finger.

Before you know it, the opportunities have ceased and the time has ran out. We become filled with regret and lament over not enjoying every minute while we still could. Sigh. Yes, there will be times like this and when you walk right into it, you know how you regrettably let opportunities slip away. :(

Enjoy some time on your own. We need time away from others too. Spending time alone allows us to review and reevaluate how we are doing in life.

There are times when we need to rediscover facts about ourselves that have somehow fallen between the cracks as we try to do our best to do well in how we live our lives.

There are moments when we need to just have the space to think, away from the clutches of influence some significant people in our lives have over us, the ones that hinder us from making our own decisions based on how we see fit.

We need time alone too, to enjoy our own company. I treasure moments I have spent alone, watching movies, travelling or just staying holed up in my room. Staring at the ceiling doing nothing. Idle moments take on an important place in my life because it assures me that I am still in control. That no matter how crazy things can get, I still have my own back and I still have the power to do as I please, even it just means declaring my own holiday amidst a busy work week!

You may find my ways crazy but it works for me. When I find myself in that blue phase, I am often always able to snap back when I actually make the effort and allot time for myself to enjoy the day. It calms me, centers me and reminds me about what matters most. I’m sure you have similar ways of coping too. Continue appreciating the opportunity to use it because not everyone can be as lucky as you to have it. Enjoy it!

Happy Sunday Everyone! :)
