3 BisDaks get Famas noms

BISAYA actress Chai Fonacier received a Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards (Famas) nomination for best supporting actress for the movie “Respeto.”

Former SunStar Cebu Flip columnist Achinette Villamor also received a nomination for best original screenplay for “Balangiga: Howling Wilderness.” She shares the nomination with fellow screenwriters Khavn dela Cruz and Jerry Gracio. She will be competing with former Cebu journalist Fatrick Tabada, who is also nominated for the same award for the movie “Si Apple at Si Chedeng.”

Famas is the oldest film award-giving body in the Philippines, and one of the oldest in Asia.

The best picture nominees are “Ang Larawan,” “Balangiga: Howling Wilderness,” “Birdshot,” “Love You to the Stars and Back,” “Nervous Translation,” “Paki,” “Respeto,” “The Chanters,” “Tu Pug Imatuy (The Right to Kill)” and “Yield.”

“Ang Larawan” was the best picture winner in the 43rd Metro Manila Film Festival. “Birdshot,” on the other hand, is the first Philippine content available on Netflix. (JGA)
