Oplan Kalinaw nabs 385 since May 2017

ALMOST a year since the “Oplan Kalinaw,” the Davao City Police office (DCPO) has recorded a total of 385 wanted personalities who were arrested during the conduct of simultaneous operations in identified areas in the city.

DCPO Director Police Senior Superintendent Alexander Tagum said the operation, which tracks down wanted persons with pending warrants of arrest, were apprehended for the period from May 25, 2017 to May 17, 2018.

“DCPO arrested 385 persons by virtue of warrant of arrest for various serious criminal offenses,” Tagum said.

“Oplan Bulabog,” or the joint Anti-Criminality and Terrorism Operations implemented by the local law enforcement unit, aims to conduct identity or background check and profiling of transient residents in the city’s urban poor communities.

It also carries out manhunt operations and arrest of wanted persons who are hiding in these communities.

The operation was launched last year in the wake of Marawi siege to prevent possible spillover and to prevent terrorist groups from establishing a foothold in Davao City.

Earlier, DCPO renamed Oplan Bulabog to Oplan Kalinaw, which is a comprehensive effort of the authorities that covers counter terrorism and anti-criminality operations to community empowerment.

Last May 17, DCPO conducted the joint area security community service and protection operation plan in coordination with Task Force Davao, Regional Mobile Force Battalion, Regional Health Service 11, Philippine Coast Guard, Regional Maritime Unit, Bureau of Fire Protection, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, Regional Intelligence Unit, Rehabilitation Center for Drug Dependents and City Health Office.

The series of operations resulted in the profiling of 1,480 residents and the arrest of 15 wanted persons by virtue of Warrant of Arrests for various serious criminal cases, one through search warrant and two arrested through police response.
