MARK Anthony Dy regained his place as the Men’s Club champion of the annual Club and Class Championship at the Cebu Country Club (CCC) after beating Marko Sarmiento in the 36-hole championship match yesterday.

Dy, the No. 1 seed, beat Sarmiento, 7 and 5, for his third Men’s Club title in four years.

“Today, I played really well. I was in the zone and I started really good. Marko is a very formidable opponent so I knew I had to really play my A-game to give myself a chance. Luckily today, I was able to deliver,” Dy told SunStar Cebu.

Dy was 3 up early after he got the sixth to ninth holes. But Sarmiento kept in close after the first 18 holes.

Dy finally pulled away and won the match by winning the four straight holes and up by seven five holes to go.

Dy, who won the title back in 2015 and 2016, advanced to the quarterfinals after a bye. He met Jufil Sato in the next round and beat him, 3 and 2. He earned a spot in the finals after a win over Eric Deen, 4 and 3.

Sarmiento, ranked sixth, defeated Marco Mendoza, 3 and 1, in the first round. He then defeated Marc Gonzalez, 3 and 2, in the quarter finals and finally earned a finals slot with a close win over No. 2 ranked Joaquin Velez, 2 and 1.

Meanwhile, Thomas Castillo beat Blake Go, 2 up, after 18 holes to win the Class B Division title.

Enzo Almario outclassed Allan Chiongbian, 7 and 6, to claim the Class C Division crown.

Robin Craze defeated Steve Maniquis, 4 and 3, for the Class D Division belt.

Ray Gibbs held his ground for a close 2 and 1 win over Ochiai Masatsugu for the Super Seniors Division title. (RSC)
