Consolacion crushes Cordova, 104-83, keeps top spot

CONSOLACION kept a firm grip on the top spot of Bracket 1 in the North Division of the Governor’s Cup 2018 Basketball Tournament after routing Cordova, 104-83, in the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural and Sports Complex last Friday night.

Emmanuel Villamor, Patrick Montaño and Marco Panta combined for 74 points to lead Consolacion to its fourth straight win. Villamor scored 28, Montaño had 25, and Panta added 21 points.

Karl Ventura had a huge game for Cordova with 31 points, but it wasn’t enough. Goldwayne Baje contributed 23, while Adrian dela Peña had 12.

After losing its opener, home team Mandaue City won its second straight game, 86-62, against Compostela.

Paul Sungahid led Mandaue with 16 points, Al-Je Mendez had 14, while Hansel Camacho and Niño Paras added 10 points apiece.

Rodnney Montero and Christian Bughao led Compostela with 11 points each.

Danao City, on the other hand, logged its third straight win with an easy 20-0 default victory over Carmen.

Consolacion is 4-0, while Danao City is 3-0. Mandaue City is third at 2-1. Cordova is 0-2, while Compostela and Carmen are both 0-3.

Meanwhile, San Francisco and Borbon walked away with contrasting wins in Bracket 2 in the Borbon Covered Court.

San Francisco outclassed Tudela, 110-50, while Borbon squeaked past Sogod, 95-92.

Volleyball

Borbon is currently at the top of Bracket 2 with a 2-0 record, followed by Poro at second with 1-0. San Francisco is third with 1-1, while Tudela, Catmon and Sogod all have identical 0-1 slates.

In the Governor’s Cup Volleyball tournament, both the North and South Division finals will go to a deciding Game 3.

Catmon beat Mandaue City, 18-25, 25-20, 29-27, 25-20, in Game 2 of the North Division Finals in the Catmon Municipal Gym last Friday night to even their series. Argao beat Carcar City, 20-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-21, in the South Finals in the Secretary Cerge Remonde Cultural and Sports Complex in Argao. (EKA, RSC)
