20-year-old ‘hacker’ arrested for ‘extortion’

A SUSPECTED hacker was caught by the Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) 7 during an entrapment last Friday afternoon after he allegedly attempted to extort money from his victim by threatening to upload her nude pictures.

Charles Diaz, 20, who hails from Barangay Tisa, Cebu City, will be facing charges for allegedly violating Article 293 of the Revised Penal Code in relation to Section 6 of the Cybercrime law.

“The 18-year-old victim said that her nude photos came from her boyfriend’s Facebook account, which was hacked last May 16. So we advised her to keep on communicating with the suspect and when he agreed to meet up in a money remittance center in Barangay Kalubihan, we effected the arrest after he took the marked money from the victim,” said Chief Insp. Leo Dofiles, chief of the ACG 7.

According to initial investigation, Diaz allegedly installed a key logger in one of the computer units in an internet cafe in Tisa, Dofiles said.

The ACG 7 said that they will also inform the owner of the internet cafe and the victim’s boyfriend about the incident so they can file charges against Diaz.

The suspect initially asked for P10,000. He later agreed not to post the nudes in exchange for P5,000 and sex.

He, however, changed his mind because he was with his live-in partner at that time, Dofiles said. (JOB)
