Editorial: Be humble

PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Oscar Albayalde again reminded his men to maintain good relations with the community to ensure peace and order.

Albayalde was in Negros Occidental Sunday, May 21 for the groundbreaking of a housing project for the members of the PNP and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in Talisay City, which was also attended by President Rodrigo Duterte.

Albayalde met with the policemen from the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), and the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Noppo) at Camp Alfredo Montelibano Sr.

In his speech, the country's top cop reminded the policemen to continue to help the community so people would not have trouble sleeping at night as they are assured that no one will invade their homes.

He also said that policemen should be modest in doing their jobs – they have to treat the rich and the poor the same.

Albayalde emphasized they have to serve the people regardless of their social status without fear or favor, whether politician or not.

He recalled that when he was a regional director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), he stressed on his men to be courteous at all times.

“They do not deserve their uniform because they do not know how to serve the people. They do not know anything about courtesy. We had the guns and we wear the uniform the more that we should be humble,” Albayalde said.

He said the police on the ground are the best ambassadors of peace and change.

Albayalde called on his men that they should work harmoniously and be courteous always in dealing with the community and the people.

So again, the police should always remain humble and courteous. It doesn't need a mandate.
