White corn production down, yellow corn up

AS of the first quarter of 2018, the white corn production in Davao Region had decreased by 5.01 percent, while the production of yellow corn increased by 34.37 percent, data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) showed.

The overall production of corn in Davao Region had a recorded increase of 4.95 percent as of the first quarter of 2018 to 55,941 metric tons (MT) from last year’s 53,305 MT.

White corn specifically reached a production record of 37,833 MT. This is a 5.01 percent decrease from last year’s 39,829 MT. Most of the white corns in the region are produced from Davao del Sur with a total production volume of 16,104 MT followed by Davao Oriental with 8,726 MT, Compostela Valley with 7,432 MT, Davao City with 3,444 MT, and Davao del Norte with 2,127MT.

Yellow corn, with the increased production volume of 34.37 percent had reached a record of 18,108 MT as compared to last year’s 13,476MT. Majority of the yellow corns in the region are still from Davao del Sur. For the first quarter of this year, the province was able to produce 21,490 MT, followed by Compostela Valley with 14,681 MT, Davao Oriental with 9,476MT, Davao City with 5,238 MT, and Davao del Norte with 5,056MT.
