Farmers, fisherfolk month celebrated

THE Department of Agriculture (DA) in Davao region brings the farmers and fisherfolk month celebration in various provinces in the region.

First stop is in Davao del Norte where more than 700 farmers and fisherfolk attended the celebration.

With a theme “Tulong-tulong at bigyang kapangyarihan ang komunidad sa pagsasaka at pangingisda. Makamit, Abot-kaya at Masustansiyang pagkain para sa bawat mamamayan”, the event aims to recognize the farmers and fisherfolks as the unsung heroes in the agriculture sector.

Marie Ann Constantino, chief of the Field Operations Division (FOD), read the message from DA regional director Ricardo Oñate Jr., who underscored the accomplishments of the farmers and fisherfolk.

“You are the backbone in the country. Without your efforts in providing food for every table we cannot achieve the thrust of our government,” he said.

He also said that DA will further support the farmers in terms of trainings, research, farm inputs and machinery.

“As we provide you assistance and uplift your living condition, we can as well say that we, as an agency is successful and effective,” he added.

He also urged the farmers and fisherfolk to combat the challenges of climate change and strive hard to improve their income.

The celebration in Davao del Norte includes technical presentation on Agricultural Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (ACEF), Production Loan Easy Access (PLEA), Agri Preneurship Trends and Animal Welfare Act.

DA provided information materials, rice and vegetable seeds. DA also distributed rice-corn blend samples for the farmers and fisherfolks consumption. (PR)
