Transport of NCCC debris monitored

THE Office of the City Building Official is still on the lookout for the safety of the workers and the transfer of the materials from one place to another.

City Building Official Cirinia Grace Catubig said in an interview with Sun.Star Davao yesterday while D.M. Consunji, Inc. (DMCI) undertakes the demolition work.

OCBO has already approved NCCC Mall's application to temporarily fence a rented one-hectare lot where the mall debris will be transferred. Catubig furthered that the vacant lot in front of the Davao Memorial Park might be the area granted for them.

To avoid heavy traffic, OCBO said that the developer will possibly conduct the demolition at night.

The mall management applied for the demolition permit last February 2 and paid for the fee worth P187,854.

Though Interagency Anti-Arson Task Force (IATF), the body formed to investigate the incident, barred them pending the release of their report on the investigation.

The management was just given clearance this month to start the demolition. The permit requires the mall management to complete the demolition within a period of 30 days from their starting date, May 19.

She said they still have to receive a copy of the investigation report.

Padua said that after the demolition the company plans to still build a mall.

The fire gutted the mall last December 23, 2017 and claimed a total of 38 lives, majority were call center agents from Survey Sampling International.

Initial investigation of the task force revealed that the cause of the fire was electrical short circuit that originated at the third floor of the mall, as manifested by the physical evidences they gathered.

The same task force also noted violations in the safety facility such as the alarm system, fire exit, and the sprinkler.
