Lightning kills bird hunter, injures another in Toledo

A MAN died while another person landed in the hospital after they were hit by lightning in the mountain village of Canlumampao, Toledo City past 2 p.m. last Sunday.

SPO1 Marciano Suarez, investigator, identified the fatality as Jayson Alicaba, a resident in the village. He was 35 and unmarried.

Suarez, in a phone interview, said Alicaba was reportedly on his way to doing a chore before the accident.

The survivor, identified as Antonio Camingao, was brought to the hospital for treatment of his third-degree burns.

Investigation showed Camingao, 35, went to Canlumampao to hunt for birds with his slingshot. He hails from Sitio Jardin, Barangay Carmen.

According to investigators, the two went inside an open hut to take shelter after it rained, coupled with thunder and lightning, past 1 p.m.

The two chatted while waiting for the rain to stop, according to witnesses.

The lightning bolt hit Alicaba and Camingao inside the hut, which is situated in an open area. (KAL)
