OFW's remains to arrive from South Korea this week

THE remains of Angelo Claveria, the migrant worker found dead in a septic tank in Korea is expected to arrive within the week.

Sister of Angelo, Jeanette Claveria said in a phone interview on May 22, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) assured them that they are currently facilitating the repatriation of the remains of their brother.

“I hope it will be within this week, Friday or Saturday,” Jeanette said.

According to her, they provided request letter to hasten the process while the required Special Power of Attorney (SPA) was sent to Glen Corpin, Philippine Embassy Assistance to Nationals Officer and Attaché.

Corpin was tasked to authenticate the SPA in the Department of Foreign Affairs in Manila and presently, the process was already finished and it was sent to Korea, Monday, May 21.

The execution of SPA which was advised to them by Corpin will authorize someone in Korea to be their attorney-in-fact or representative who will facilitate the repatriation.

“Within this week, hopefully, the remains will be facilitated to be repatriated here,” Jeanette said.

It was still unsure about the specific date of the specific date of repatriation since they were informed that after “2 to 3 days” or when the SPA arrived in Korea.

Jeanette said that the presidential assistant for Western Visayas Jane Javellana informed them that Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go might be able to visit the Claveria family on Sunday if the remains will arrive on Saturday.

The wake of Angelo will have around five to seven days.

Angelo was a metalworker at a factory in Hwaseong, Gyronggi province in South Korea. His body was found in a septic tank last April. He was 34. (Carolyn Jane Abello)
