2 dead in Tuba accident; truck rams 11 in Baguio

TWO senior citizens died and four children were injured in Tuba while hundreds of bags of cement have gone to waste after a truck lost its brakes and rammed 11 vehicles in Baguio City.

Tuba Municipal Police Station (MPS) identified the fatalities as Sioniong Pimiliw, 75, and Rosaline Alberto, 71. They were run over by a sports utility vehicle in Sitio Canubas, Camp 4, Kennon Road Tuba in Benguet, Tuesday morning, May 22.

Chief Inspector James Acod, chief of the Tuba MPS, said the victims and their four minor grandchildren were waiting for a ride to Baguio City when they were accidentally bumped by the SUV at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The children who were also injured during the accident.

Both senior citizens were declared dead on the spot while the four minor victims were brought to the Baguio General Hospital. Authorities said the victims are now in stable condition.

Acod, who has yet to release the identity of the driver, added an investigation is now ongoing as cases of reckless imprudence resulting in double homicide, multiple physical injuries and damage to property awaits the suspect.

The Tuba chief of police, added the drive was coming from the lowland and was proceeding towards Baguio City when he bumped into the victims.

In Baguio City, a 10-wheeler forward truck was traversing Buhagan (formerly Bokawkan) Road when it lost its break ramming 11 other vehicles parked along the street.

Authorities identified the driver as Salvador Wakit Martin, 47, and a resident of Ygayagan, Tuba, Benguet who was with his 15 year old son.

Three others were injured in the incident whose vehicle was parked along the roadside. Police named the victims as Jude William Gawigaoen, Aldrin Wagsingan Lagasca, and nine month old pregnant Rhea Joy Tuazon Mariano. (With a report from Jonathan Llanes)
