THE Cebu City Niños continued to display dominance as they racked up seven gold medals on Day 3 to solidify their lead in the race for the overall title of the 2018 Philippine National Games (PNG).

Cebu City got contributions yesterday from track and field, swimming, cycling, karatedo and arnis to improve its unofficial medal haul to 23 gold medals, 32 silvers, and 23 bronzes.

In the official medal tally released by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Baguio City was in second place with a 9-12-11 gold-silver-bronze medal haul, followed by General Santos City with 9-12-10, Manila with 8-4-8, and Zamboanga City with 8-1-4.

Cebu City started its third day haul in the pool courtesy of Razel Cabajar, who won gold in the women’s 16-Over 50-meter butterfly with a time of 32.48 seconds in the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC). Cabajar beat Charllyn Allysa Romanos, who clocked 33.01, and Alexandra Cortes, who finished in 33.99.

Cabajar teamed up with Karen Mae Indaya, Justine Reign Garrido, and Micah Marie Dela Cerna for another gold medal in the women’s 16-Over 4x100m relay. The Cebu City relay team clocked 5:14.08 to outlast General Santos City (5:19.31) and Iligan City (5:37.01).

The arnisadors chipped in two gold medals coming from Dexter Bolambao and Jacki Tuada in the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex. Bolambao bagged gold medal in the men’s double weapon non-traditional while Tuada snatched gold medal in the women’s open traditional.

James de Los Santos Sr. chipped in a gold medal in the men’s kata in the karatedo event at the SM City Seaside.

National team member John Renee Mier shone in the individual time trial cycling event in Danao City. Mier, who has recovered from a clavicular fracture, outlasted Rody Roque and Ronald Lomotus for the gold medal.

The track and field team continued to be number one contributor of medals for Cebu City with a total of nine gold medals, 11 silvers and 11 bronzes after three days of competition. (RSC)
