Man faces murder case over death of graduating medical student

POLICE filed yesterday a criminal complaint against a 56-year-old man who allegedly stabbed to death a registered nurse in Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City last May 15.

Suspect Wilfredo Velez, of Barangay Kamputhaw, Cebu City, was named in a murder complaint filed before the Office of the Cebu City Prosecutor.

Amy Therese Cabataña, 28, a licensed nurse, was stabbed to death inside her apartment on V. Rama St., Barangay Guadalupe.

Investigators said that witnesses saw Velez enter the victim’s room before the murder happened.

Erika de la Cerna, counsel for the Cabataña family, welcomed the filing of the murder complaint against Velez.

Cabataña, who hailed from Loay town in Bohol Province, finished her nursing course in Holy Name University in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

She passed the nursing licensure examination in July 2010. She took up medicine and was supposed to graduate next month. (GMD)
