Lightning kills 2nd man in Cebu in 25 hours

A 46-YEAR-OLD man died after he was struck by lightning while fishing in the seawaters off Barangay Pondol, Balamban around 3 p.m. last Monday.

PO3 Excel Aguanta, desk officer, identified the man as Victor Sagrados Mingke, who the second person to die by lightning strike in Cebu in just 25 hours.

At 2 p.m. last Sunday, lightning hit and killed Jayson Alicaba, 25, while he was in an open hut in Barangay Canlumampao, Toledo City. Bird hunter Antonio Camingao, who accompanied Alicaba, suffered burns but survived.

In the Balamban accident, an investigation showed Mingke left his home in Sitio Menteryong Daan, Pondol around 2 p.m. He went fishing alone even though the weather was ugly.

Around 3 p.m., lightning hit Mingke, who collapsed in his wooden boat. His fellow fishermen rowed near him and tried to revive him. They then rushed Mingke to Balamban District Hospital, but the attending doctor declared him dead on arrival. (KAL)
