Police security up for opening of classes

THE police in Cebu have prepared their security measures for the opening of classes next month.

Senior Superintendent Manuel Javier Abrugena, the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) director, said they will make sure that the students will not fall victims to criminals.

"I directed to the police officers is to ensure the safety of our students," he said on Wednesday morning, May 23.

Abrugena said they have coordinated with the Department of Education for the security preparations.

In February 2011, Cebu was stunned by the kidnap-slay of six-year-old Ellah Joy Pique. The girl was walking home from school with friends before she was kidnapped in Barangay Calajoan, Minglanilla.

Abrugena assured the public that they will secure schools' premises to avoid the same incident in the future.

Meanwhile, the police official had instructed his personnel in the lower units to help in the annual Brigada Eskwela program, which aims to clean classrooms before the start of classes in June. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
