THE City of Bacolod will provide free school supplies to all the public elementary pupils in the city this school year.

Councilor Caesar Distrito, chairperson of the City Council committee on finance, Tuesday, May 22 confirmed that the Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) is now conducting a post qualification and assessment of the winning bidder based in Cebu City.

He said Angel's Sportswear was declared the lowest calculated bidder during the bidding on May 17 with the Approved Budget of the Contract of P16,320,000.

He added the winning bidder offered a bid of P11 million to the City have a savings of more than P4 million.

Distrito noted that the City will provide school supplies such as pencil, ballpen, notebook, paper, crayons, ruler, and bag to all pupils from Grades 1 to 6 in all public elementary schools.

In 2016, the City Council approved the ordinance providing free educational materials to all students or public elementary schools in Bacolod, which was authored by Distrito.

Distrito said last year, the City failed to implement the ordinance because the winning bidder failed to meet the specification that was required by BAC.

"This time, Mayor Evelio Leonardia has secured the assurance of the supplier that the school supplies and bags will be delivered on time.

It’s a priority project of the Leonardia administration that will make our parents save a lot on their school supplies," he said.

He added the school supplies will be distributed to almost 40, 000 pupils a week or a month after the opening of classes on June.
