WATER technology solutions provider Mactan Rock Industries Inc. (MRII) unveiled on Friday its water treatment facility inside the Terminal 2 (T2) of Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA).
With a capacity of 1,300 cubic meters, the water sourced from Mactan Rock undergoes multiple filtering processes in compliance with international standards. It will supply T2’s water requirement estimated at 500 cubic meters a day.
MRII chairman Antonio Tompar said the new plant will also serve as a backup supply in case of water disruption, with supply enough to last for three days.
According to Dr. Hari Kumar Parameshwar, joint project director at Megawide-GISPL Construction Joint Venture, the privately-run Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) strictly adheres to international standards for all of its facilities, including water.
“People from different countries use our airport so we need to make sure out water suits their taste, aside from it being safe,” said Parameshwar.
Tompar said the company already supplies water that is compliant to the Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water.
T2’s water plant is connected to Mepz 1’s pipeline. In the future, Mactan Rock eyes to connect the water system of the airport to Mepz 2 to ensure continuity of water supply.
As of April, construction of T2 is already 98 percent complete.
T2, which will house all the international flights, is scheduled for inauguration this June 7 to be led by President Rodrigo Duterte.
It will start its commercial operations by June 22. (KOC)
