Police urge pension house owners to apply strict policy

SUPERINTENDENT German Garbosa, chief of Victorias City Police Station in Negros Occidental, urged all owners of hotels and pension houses in the city to implement strict policies in dealing with their clients following a murder case in an inn over the weekend.

Garbosa met with eight of the 12 owners in a dialogue at the police station on Tuesday, May 22.

The dialogue, which is also part of the police's intervention in the anti-criminality campaign, aims to raise awareness among the owners to set certain limitations as well as prohibitions and house rules and policies when somebody is occupying rooms in their hotels and pension houses.

On May 19, a 23-year-old woman was found dead inside a room at an inn on De Leon Street at Barangay 2.

Investigation showed that the victim was found naked and covered with a blanket inside a comfort room.

She was believed to be choked when a handkerchief was found on her neck.

She also sustained bruises, a sign that there was a commotion that happened.

Garbosa said they already identified the perpetrator, who is believed to be her partner, based on the testimony of the witnesses.

A murder case will be filed against the suspect this week, he added.

Garbosa, during the dialogue, warned owners that they may be held liable for any misdemeanor if the same incident will happen.

"If something happens, they will be subjected to cancellation of their permits and will face investigation," Garbosa said.

Garbosa said the dialogue turned out positive, as the owners also wanted the same but they also insisted that they are just "doing business."

Garbosa said he suggested to the owners to intensify their security measures by asking for Identification cards from the clients and to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras.

All clients should be accounted when they checked-in and checked-out to avoid the recurrence of the incident, he added. GYM
