ABS-CBN sacks more than 20 employees in Bacolod station

MORE than 20 regular workers and talents of ABS-CBN Bacolod were terminated due to redundancy.

Their employment is until June 30.

A source of SunStar Bacolod said that affected employees were informed about their termination on Tuesday, May 22.

The sacked workers also signed the necessary documents in lieu of their separation from the broadcasting giant.

Another source said that affected employees will get a substantial separation pay.

SunStar Bacolod reached out to ABS-CBN Bacolod station manager Clifford Nolido for a statement, but he refused to comment on the matter.

President Rodrigo Duterte threatened to block the renewal of ABS-CBN’s franchise.

The president said the network did not show his political ads during the 2016 campaign even if they already accepted the payment.

The franchise of the network will expire in 2020.

The bill seeking to renew the franchise of ABS-CBN for 25 years is still at the House committee level.

Last March, TV5 Network Inc. also shut down the operations of its online news portal, InterAksyon.

In January, some employees of CNN Philippines were also laid off.
