Ebabacol’s move surprises peers

“HE should have at least informed us.”

This was the reaction of Cagayan de Oro City Councilor Leon Gan, one of the local leaders of the dominant political party Padayon Pilipino, on the oath-taking of re-elected Barangay 17 chairman Jerico Goldmar Ebabacol before Mayor Oscar Moreno early this week.

Gan said he was surprised upon learning the move of Ebabacol to be sworn into office by Moreno.

But, Gan said it is Ebabacol's right as to whom he wants to take his oath as reelected village chief.

Ebabacol was known to be a loyal member of the party while the sitting mayor was its main rival in Cagayan de Oro politics.

"Sa ako lang personal nakurat gyud ko kay nganong didto siya nagpahurar pero iya manang katungod,"Gan said.

"Bisan kang kinsa man lugar ta mahimong mag-take oath pero pwede sad unta to nga nagpahibalo siya labi na nga didto siya sa kaatbang nanumpa," he added.

The minority floor leader in the city council clarified that the party has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.

Ebabacol said earlier he’s leaving the party and his move was only a form of respect to the city's top official.

Misamis Oriental Governor Yevgeny Emano, the party's vice chairman, said he has yet to talk with Ebabacol, adding that politics has `full of surprises’.

"Haven't talk with him so I'll wait for the right time. Everyday naay surprises sa politika," Emano said.

For the coming ABC (Association of Barangay Councils) elections, Gan said the party has yet to decide who to field with for the presidency, though it already has some prospects.

This, as Gan said there is no schedule yet for the mass oath taking for the newly-elected and reelected barangay captains under the party.

"Wala pa mi nagkasabot sa mass oath taking ug kung kinsa pud padaganon sa ABC," Gan said.
