No water for 10 hours this weekend

A 10-HOUR water service interruption will be implemented this weekend as the Cagayan de Oro City Water District (COWD) will undertake repair works in a bid to improve the city’s water supply.

In an advisory, the COWD said Cagayan de Oro Bulk Water, Inc. (COBI) will replace four isolation valves and two blow-off valves on two parallel treated water pipelines across the Bubunawan river.

Replacement of the valves on Saturday and Sunday, May 26 to 27, will ensure flexibility and reliability of the bulk water supply to COWD.

Bubunawan River in Pualas, Baungon, Bukidnon, is where COWD sources its raw water, pumping the water to a chemical treatment system to produce World Health Organization-standard quality potable water.

Last year, a busted water pipe in Bubunawan river caused water service interruption for more than a week in some parts of the city.

The schedule of water service interruption is from 8 p.m. Saturday, May 26, to 6 a.m. Sunday, May 27.

The COWD said although the activity may be completed on or before 6 a.m. as scheduled, the water facility advised the public to wait a few hours for the pressure to build up before normal water supply is restored.

No water supply is expected in the following areas: Lumbia, Masterson Avenue, Upper Carmen, Pagatpat, Canitoan, Patag, Iponan, Bulua, and Opol. While there will be low pressure to no water in Lower Carmen, Kauswagan, Bonbon, and Bayabas.

Meanwhile, the Cagayan Electric Power and Light Co., Inc (Cepalco) has also scheduled a 10-hour power interruption on Sunday to facilitate pole replacement along Capistrano Street.

The affected areas will be Capistrano street, from Corner Cruz Taal to Montalban street, and its nearby streets.

"Power will however be restored immediately without further notice when line works are completed earlier than scheduled," the Cepalco said.
