Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod congratulates Iglesia Ni Cristo

THE SANGGUNIANG Panlungsod (SP) of Bacolod approved a resolution congratulating Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) Executive Minister, Brother Eduardo Manalo in the successful conduct of the May 6, 2018, Worldwide Walk to Fight Poverty which bagged three new Guinness World Records.

The resolution, authored by Councilor Wilson Gamboa, was approved during the regular session Wednesday, May 23.

Gamboa said the charity walk held by the Iglesia ni Cristo on May 6 where over 1.5 million members participated has officially set three new Guinness World Records.

He said Bacolod City is one of the major cities all over the world chosen as the demonstration site of the worldwide walk to fight for poverty, which also gave international focus and recognition to the city.

He added that Adam Brown, official adjudicator and representative of Guinness World Records, announced that the event dubbed “Worldwide walk to fight poverty” has broken the records for largest human sentence, largest charity walk at a single venue and largest human mosaic; and the other two world records but still under verification namely: the largest charity walk at multiple venues and most nationalities in a charity.

Gamboa noted that INC hopes to emphasize that poverty is one of the leading problems which continues to be a pressing global issue which requires worldwide action in its second Worldwide Walk to Fight Poverty, a charity walk that was held simultaneously last May 6 in 358 sites in 44 different countries across 18 time zones.

Gamboa said the Worldwide Walk to Fight Poverty was envisioned to help the less privileged people in certain communities, especially those in the African Continent.

“The said event gave emphasis and served as an example in extending food, medicine, shelter and housing and other assistance to the needy and victims of calamities and disaster thru its programs as 'aid to the humanity' here and abroad regardless of religion and nationality,” he said.

He added that the said Guinness world records marked another milestone in our country’s history.
