Bacolod dad reminds motorists to slow down along Lacson Street

BACOLOD City Mayor Evelio Leonardia is reminding the motorists to always slow down when driving to avoid untoward incidents.

Leonardia said he received information that some traffic accidents were reported along Lacson Street where the construction of the drainage project is ongoing.

"We should be aware that there is a construction in the main highway so we should slowdown also when driving and avoid over speeding," he said.

The mayor will coordinate with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to require the contractor to provide effective early warning devices along Rizal Street going to Capitol Lagoon on Lacson Streets.

Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (Btao) head Superintendent Luisito Acebuche had earlier appealed to the DPWH to double their effort in finishing the drainage construction along Lacson Street.

Acebuche said the DPWH promised to finish the project within 90 days, but it will still depend on the weather condition.

He said the DPWH encountered some problems on their excavation along Lacson Street that delayed their construction.

The DPWH started the construction of drainage projects from Rizal Street going to Mandalagan Bridge in February.

The drainage project along Rizal Street going to Capitol Park and Lagoon on Lacson Street costs P20 million while the one from Lacson Street towards Mandalagan Bridge is worth P35 million.

District Engineer Abraham Villareal earlier said that based on their study, there are insufficient drainage lines from Rizal Street to Mandalagan Bridge.

Once the drainage system will be connected to Mandalagan Bridge, flooding due to rains will totally recede at very minimum time duration.
