Program’s success means fewer golds for Cebu City

CEBU City was tipped as the favorite in the dancesport event of the 2018 Philippine National Games (PNG) but the host fell a bit short of everybody’s expectations, despite four gold medals in 11 competitions last night in Robinsons Galleria.

“We could have done better, but as the host, it is fine. We really want to share the medals with as many competitors, especially when we’re the host and many of them are our beneficiary dance scholars--Davao, Tagum, General Santos,” said Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) Chairman Edward Hayco.

Siblings James Bryan Camacho and Christine Camacho won a gold medal in the Grade C Standard. Gylle Niño Diluvio and Yeddah Marie Castañares won the top plum in the Youth C Latin. Jake Emmanuel Corro and Kim Jocson dominated the Youth B Latin, and Jeffrey Ruben Benarao and Noelyn Mie Pedrano topped the Grade B Latin.

“I always tell Loloy (Rendon) that the true measure of a master is when his student is able to beat him. That means you didn’t hold him back and shared everything with your students, and we’re proud of it. It will keep raising the bar. Now, we will have to strive harder. It’s a mixed feeling. We should have done better but it’s okay,” said Hayco.

Some of beneficiary cities of Cebu that won gold medals are Davao City and Tagum City in the Youth C Standard and Youth B Standard, respectively.

Aside from the four golds, Cebu City also won six silver medals and four bronze medals.

The silver medalists are Corro and Jocson in the Youth C Standard, Lloyd Simon Asuque and Jasmin Kate Labra in the Youth B Standard, Diluvio and Castañares in the Youth A Standard, Romeo Jay Cialbo and Mae Pabuya in the Grade B Standard, Shardie Abellana and Marjorie Pasaje in the Grade C Latin, and Wilbert Aunzo and Pearl Marie Cañeda in the Grade A Latin.

The bronze medal winners are the Camacho siblings in the Grade B Standard, Jasmer Labitad and Lorraine Mae Pacaña in the Grade C Latin, Eo Lowen Rendon and Carrie Samson in the Grade B Latin and John Paul Mocorro and Mary Joy Dumosmog. (EKA)
